Insulation vs Insulation P – are you using your 3309 correctly?
Are you a Metrel 3309 user? Have you ever wondered what the difference is between the Insulation test and the Insulation-P test? Well, the "P" is the giveaway – it stands for Probe.
The Insulation-P test is specifically designed for Class II appliances, where the insulation test is carried out between the live conductors and the exposed external conductive parts of the appliance. This version of the test bypasses the earth pin of the instrument’s outlet socket, so it’s only suitable for Class II testing.
However, it comes with a major benefit – using this test, you can repeat the insulation test as many times as needed, ensuring all exposed metal parts are properly checked.
Not all retailers of the Metrel 3309 include this test in the Simple Test list, so... have you been doing Class II tests wrong all this time?
Don’t worry – the standard insulation test will still pick up insulation breakdowns to the probe. You just only get one shot!
