Overview:
An adaptor providing CAT III protection to CAT II RCD testing devices that are connected to a power source in a CAT III environment (such as a switchboard).
Application:
The testing of switchboard RCD's can either be performed from outlet sockets on the circuit on which they are installed, or at the switchboard directly by a licensed electrican. Many electricians perfer the swithboard method as it allows for the efficient testing RCD's in quick succession without the need to visit multiple outlets within the installation.
As internal switchboards are considered to be a CAT III environment, CAT II testers such as appliance testers cannot be used safely to perform this task.
Doing so presents serious risks to both the users of the equpiment, and the test equipment itself.
Even in cases of just a single phase 240V AC connection to the switchboard, voltage spikes and transients which are more prevalent at a switchboard can cause damage to test equipment and presents risk of injury to users.
This unique device allows CAT II Appliance Testers and RCD Testers to be used in a CAT III environment for RCD testing where a seperate CAT III RCD tester or Installation tester would otherwise be required.
This delivers all the benefits of using an Appliance Tester with RCD testing facitilies for switchboard RCD testing such as:
Using one item of test equipment for both appliance testing and installation RCD testing saving on the expense of two seperate devices
Utilising the advanced recording capabilities of appliance testers
Consolidating RCD test results performed at the switchboard with other appliance testing results
Note: The devices does not allow the connection of Appliance Testers and RCD testers which require a Neutral connection (standard mains power connection for power/operation in normal use) to a 3-phase power source without Neutral (eg connection of an appliance tester to a 4 pin (L1, L2, L3, PE). Please visit our range of installation testers and dedicated RCD testers for this application.
